Q&A WITH CEO OF HONOR MD SKINCARE, URSULA DIAZ

EG: What were you like as a girl?

UD: As a young girl, I was very driven and ambitious. Even at an early age, I wanted to be an entrepreneur and my dream was to have my own business one day. I was also very curious, social and loved to meet people and learn from everyone around me. I’m still very much that way to this day.

EG: Describe the journey you took to get to where you are now.

UD: My journey really started when I began modeling at age 15. This is when my love of beauty really flourished. It was also what made me hyperaware of what my skin looked like, so it was pretty devastating to me when I started breaking out with cystic acne in my early twenties. Thankfully, one of my earlier part time jobs was as a makeup artist so I knew how to cover skin blemishes and camouflage flaws.

I graduated from University of San Francisco where I studied marketing. During this time, I became fascinated with starting and growing a business.  I eventually worked as a merchandising assistant in fashion and later advanced to be a Marketing/PR director in the aesthetic industry.

Working in the aesthetic industry rekindled my passion in skin care. I met with numerous clients who struggled with acne and the overall appearance of their skin. My personal experience with acne, and the desire to help my clients, inspired me to create a skin care line. This is where my marketing knowledge, business interests and beauty experience finally came together to get me where I am today.

EG: Describe a day in your life.

UD: I wake up anytime between 5am-6am with my 9 month old daughter Sage.  I feed her, we play and then it’s time to put her back to sleep.  I eat breakfast while answering emails and squeeze in a quick workout if I can.  As soon as our nanny arrives I go to my office in Beverly Hills for a day of researching skin care ingredients, meetings and content shoots. When my work is done in the office I come home cook (or throw something together!) and then it’s bath-time and bed-time rituals with Sage.  Once she is asleep I like to meditate, catch up with my husband and then go to sleep.

EG: Where do you see yourself in five years?

UD: In 5 years I see us as a luxury lifestyle brand that encompasses clean and natural skin care, bath and body care as well as colored cosmetics.
